About this tour

Reykjavík has 60 km of dedicated coastal cycle path — most visitors never see it. This 18 km out-and-back loop gives you the full city shoreline at e-bike pace, with three substantial stops. May to September the route is fully open; October to April we run weather-dependent on calm days.

  1. Bike fitting at Old Harbour

    20 min

    Sterna's bike rental partner on Geirsgata. Fit your e-bike, learn the controls, brief on traffic rules.

  2. Sun Voyager and Sæbrautin path

    30 min

    Roll east along Sæbrautin to Jón Gunnar Árnason's Sun Voyager sculpture, then continue past Harpa Concert Hall.

  3. Nautólsvík geothermal beach

    30 min

    Iceland's only swimming beach with imported yellow sand. The lagoon is geothermally heated to 18°C; the open ocean stays around 4°C. Quick stop at the beach café.

  4. Vesturbugt and Eiriksgata

    20 min

    Cross the city west along quiet residential streets, past the University of Iceland and Vesturbær open-air thermal pool.

  5. Grótta lighthouse

    40 min

    Reach the city's western tip at low tide — a tidal causeway leads to a 19th-century lighthouse on a small island. Puffins nest here April–August; bring binoculars if you have them.

  6. Coastal return to Old Harbour

    40 min

    Loop back along the northern shore via Eieiðsvík Bay, through the new Vesturhavn district, ending at the bike-rental shop.
